But I have trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
I will sing to the LORD,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.

Psalm 13:5-6

stead·fast  /ˈstedˌfast /  adjective – resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.

Being an architect (in a previous life!), I know the importance of having solid foundations for any man-made structure.  When soil conditions are poor, one has to dig really deep or drive really long piles in order to hit that solid slab of earth known as bedrock.  A building connected to bedrock is generally structurally stable when it is well-designed.

The presence of a good foundation allows the building to function as it should.  There is no fear of structural collapse or failure.  There is less risk to the ones living or working inside. There is freedom to enjoy the amenities designed into the building.  For something that almost nobody sees, the building foundation does quite a lot.

Such is the steadfast love of the Lord. It is not tangible, yet it is palpable. A heart anchored on God does not fear the evils of this world. It enjoys fullness of life, because it knows it shall be kept safe by its maker and redeemer. Have you experienced or felt God’s love lately?  Does your heart sing because of the Lord’s salvation?  To whom do you turn for assurance?

Steady your heart on God’s love. It never fails.
